Letting Go of Your Wedding Possessions
Most brides spend several months planning their wedding. A large portion of the planning involves shopping for a bridal gown, wedding jewelry, decorations, a veil, shoes, and everything else that a bride needs for her special day. When the wedding is over, the bride is stuck with items that she may never use again. What options does a bride have for getting rid of her bridal attire and decorations? It seems rather unusual that a bride will spend several years dreaming, 6 to 12 months planning, and a few sleepless nights finalizing the details of her big day–just to turn around and give away some of the most important elements from her wedding day. These elements may include her wedding jewelry, dress, shoes, headpiece, and decorations. A bride that is no longer emotionally attached to her bridal attire and accessories might consider the following options.
Consignment
Many resale establishments accept bridal gowns, wedding jewelry and other items related to bridal attire from consumers for consignment. This is a great alternative for a bride that is willing to let go, but doesn’t mind walking away with a small fraction of what she originally paid for the items.
Online Auctions
Holding auctions online is growing more popular in recent years. A bride might consider selling her wedding jewelry and other possessions on an online auction.
Online Buy/Sell/Trade
There are some websites that allow customers to buy, sell, and trade personal items such as wedding jewelry. This is a great way to sell your belongings while reaching a broader audience.
Family and Friends
It’s always a great idea to keep it in the family. If a bride has a close friend or relative that doesn’t mind hand-me-downs, she might consider passing on her wedding jewelry and bridal gown to a loved one. It’s a great way to for a bride to let go of her wedding belongings without totally giving them up!
Some brides might hesitate on giving away their wedding possessions for sentimental reasons. Unfortunately, these items might be tucked away and forgotten in an attic or a crawl space for years to come. If this is the case, a bride is better off giving someone else the opportunity to enjoy her bridal gown, wedding jewelry, and anything else she is holding on to. After all, one bride’s trash is another bride’s treasure!
